WebRTC enables real-time communications through a web browser. These communications are known as web calls, which are essentially browser-based VoIP calls.
What is VoIP? VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a technology that lets you make calls over an internet connection. It converts audio signals into digital data signals (known as “packets”). These packets are compressed, sent over the internet, decompressed and presented to the receiver in their original audio form.

Yes! You can ignore numbers on specific websites by going to the web page and right-clicking on the site from anywhere on the page. Select Dialpad Extension > Ignore phone numbers for this site.
If there are multiple websites you want to ignore numbers for, there’s a way to do it without visiting each and every website. From Chrome, go to Settings > Extensions > Dialpad Extension > Details.
Click on Extension Options > Website Exceptions. From there, you can enter the URLs of every website that you don’t want the extension to recognise numbers on.
When you click on a phone number in the Chrome extension, Dialpad will launch a separate call screen by default. This call screen will prompt you to make the call (as well as adjust your outbound caller ID) so that it’s unlikely that you’ll ever make an accidental call on your web browser.
If you make a call on your web browser but want to switch to your smartphone or laptop (or vice versa), you can do so easily with Dialpad’s call flip feature.
No—if you don’t want to make calls through Chrome, just don’t install the Chrome extension. However, if you regularly use the Chrome browser and want to streamline your call workflow, using the browser is recommended for quick and convenient calling.
Yes, of course. You can uninstall the Chrome extension at any time. Just right-click on the icon in your browser and select “remove from Chrome”.

Not all VoIP providers can support HD calling through web browsers, so it’s definitely worth doing your research to find a provider that does. With Dialpad, you can make real-time HD voice calls and HD video calls across all of your devices, including browser calls.
With that being said, all VoIP calls—even ones made through robust unified communications solutions like Dialpad—require a strong internet connection. VoIP calls require a bandwidth of at least 100 kilobits/sec per device to achieve high call quality.
