FAQs about cloud calling
Most small to medium businesses use Dialpad as an office phone system to keep their business number and their personal numbers separate. This way, you can take work calls on your cell phone without sharing your personal number with clients and coworkers.
(Dialpad also offers numerous other business features that personal lines do not.)
Dialpad is a modern, 100% cloud-based phone system that uses VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology to connect calls from any Internet-enabled device. Dialpad uses WebRTC and the Opus codec to deliver real-time, superior, high-definition voice calls and communications across the Dialpad app and your web browser.
Even Dialpad's least expensive paid plan gives you unlimited voice calls in your country, the US, and Canada (along with standard business features like call transfers, call forwarding, voicemail, call waiting). If you need international calls, you can get that with Dialpad with affordable long distance rates.
Yes! Because Dialpad is 100% cloud-based, your business phone can be accessed from anywhere with sufficient bandwidth, meaning you have the flexibility to work from your favorite devices whether you're in the office, at home, or out on the road.
Dialpad is designed to work across mobile devices including Android and iPhone (iOS) smartphones and tablets, as well as laptop and desktop computers.
You do need a carrier network connection with mobile data or Wi-Fi in order to make phone calls with Dialpad (or any other UCaaS platform).
Nope. Dialpad doesn’t use traditional phone lines to make voice calls. Dialpad is not an analog telephony system—it’s a modern cloud-based phone system that uses VoIP technology to make and receive calls over the internet.
Typically, analog phones only allow phone calls to be connected if you have permanent wiring in place. With VoIP calls, Dialpad lets you have an agile and flexible communication solution that's fully operable in any location with an Internet connection.
Not necessarily. It depends on who you’re calling. If the person you’re calling is another employee in your organization, all you have to do is search for their name in your Dialpad account. To do this, just go to Search in the Dialpad app (or in a web browser where you're logged in) and enter the name that you’re looking for. You should find your contact under both the Personal Contacts and Group Contacts tabs.
But if it’s the first time you're using Dialpad or you’re calling an external number, then the number might not be synced with your contacts database. In this case, you’ll have to dial in the number manually.
It’s easy to answer calls with Dialpad. When an incoming call is coming in, a call notification will appear and sound across all of your Dialpad-connected devices. You can then choose which device you want to answer the call on, accept the call with a tap or a click, and you’re connected. That's it!
HD stands for high definition, and it means that real-time voice transmission quality is crystal clear. This is because Dialpad uses WebRTC technology and the Opus codec in its architecture—the latest and most advanced VoIP technology available.
